Group projects
Past & Present Projects undertaken by the Mallee Landcare Group
Some of the many past and current projects the group has done and are presently undertaking include -
- Erosion control methods such as dune reclamation, roadside revegetation, tree propagation, saltbush establishment and direct seeding.
- Protection and enhancement of vegetation included projects such as tree propagation, planting and reclamation of roadsides, nature trails, woodlots and corridors.
- The group has also produced numerous articles for newspapers to promote the groups projects and joint projects with government and other businesses.
- The Recreating the Links project was aimed at creating a corridor between Murray Sunset National Park and Wyperfeld National Park for the purposes of biodiversity protection and habitat enhancement. It is a three-year project funded by Bushcare ($80, 000) and will be completed by 2003.
- The
Protecting Sandhill Soils through promoting approved pasture options in the malleeproject is aimed at promoting better pasture options for fodder and cropping rotations in the Mallee. The three year project will include liasing with farmers, planning sessions, sowing paddock size demonstrations of pasture option/varieties and the establishment of 55 sites. - The SALADO Lucerne Demonstration will provide information on SALADO lucerne as a perennial pasture option for alkaline soils and to reduce the groundwater table. It is a three year project funded by NHT ($2, 300).
