Background: The Millewa-Carwarp Landcare Group is the oldest Landcare group in the Mallee region and was formed in 1989 after the community recognised the need for all land managers to start working together to manage the limited natural resources in the area rather than doing so in isolation. The group is located in the North West corner of the Mallee region consisting of 85 farming enterprises and covering an area of over 500,000 hectares in totel. The group has over the years implemented an impressive range of on-ground works that continue to benefit the community through to this day. As recognition for their efforts the group has received a number of awards for their achievements including: The Victorian Community Landcare award (1993), The Victorian Landcare Award (1994) and the The Hansloe Cup for Sustainable Agriculture (2000). Of the 85 farming enterprises at least 70% of the properties participate in Landcare activities. These include workshops, field days, noxious weed and vermin control programs along with revegetation and protection of remanent native bushland on both private and public land.
Past Projects: A number of projects have been successfully implemented over the years examples of which are:
Ø Greening Australia floodplain project, revegetation of scalded floodplain areas.
Ø Over 100 kms of direct seeding trials
Ø Construction of a Kangaroo control fence between the Murray Sunset National Park and private land.
Ø Revegetated areas along the Sturt Highway and on Walpolla Island under a Save the Bush program.
Ø Bushcare project that fenced off and protected areas of revegetation and indigenous sites of cultural significance on Walpolla Island.
Ø Yarrara Ridge Bushcare project that identified and enhanced areas of threatened remanent vegetation in the Yarrara area.
Ø Werrimull Interpretation Trail. An education and awareness trail located in the Werrimull Township that highlights the districts heritage, land management and biodiversity issues.

Current and ongoing projects: There are a number of projects that are on-going and are well supported with in the community.
Ø Integrated Rabbit management programs where landholders work with contractors to destroy rabbit warrens and reduce the infestation on both public and private land.
Ø Containment and eradication of the regionally prohibited weeds Silverleaf Nightshade and Hardheads.
Ø Improvement and restoration of biodiversity and habitat links through revegetaion works on private land.
Ø Revegetation of a high voltage under ground D.C cable areas installed by Murraylink Transmission Company
Ø Addressing impacts on areas of high saline content by plantings of saltbush and salt tolerant natives.
Ø Improving soil health and controlling erosion through the promotion and adoption of minimum till farming practices along with precision Ag technology.
