The Kooloonong-Natya Landcare Group is situated along the Murray River from Piangil to Boundary Bend. It extends west from Piangil with the western boundary being the 163rd Meridian covering approximately 200,000ha of private and public land. There are 68 landholders in the area with 48 being part of the Landcare Group. The major land use is cereal cropping, in particular wheat and barley. Stocking sheep is still a practice for many of the landholders but is generally small scale. There are a few dairying enterprises in the district and also some horticultural development on the irrigation country, which includes vines, citrus, potatoes and lucerne. The area has low annual rainfall (300mm) and soils are usually calcareous and vary from sands or sandy loams on dune systems or alluvial clays associated with the Murray River. Within the Landcare Group area, there are four towns - Piangil, Natya, Kooloonong and Boundary Bend.
