The Network also works exceptionally well in New South Wales with the assistance of Murrakool INC the NSW Landcare Network. Landcare groups in this area:
Nyah West
The Nyah West Landcare Group area is located in the northeast of the Mallee region and extends from Pira through to Piangil. The major regional centre is Swan Hill with a population of approximately 10,000.
Swan Hill West
The Swan Hill West Landcare Group formed in 1999 with assistance from then NRE, as there was a feeling that the Swan Hill West area was missing out on money and services in natural resource management. The membership number is currently 20 paid members with 36 landholders being on the mailing list.
Ultima
The Ultima Landcare Group formed in 1999 from a Rabbit Action Group. The then Department of Natural Resources and Environment encouraged the group to become a Landcare group. Average membership of the group is currently 22 representing more than 80% of the landholders in the district. Greater proportions of landholders are now members, due to farmers retiring and local farmers buying up the adjoining land, hence the total number of landholders in the area is decreasing.
Waitchie
Waitchie Landcare Group formed in October 1992 because the members found they had common goals and could achieve better results through a group approach to address particular issues, in particular salinity. Membership has averaged 30, which is approximately 80% of landholders in the district.
